X.4195. RE ARMOURED CARS.

Mr. Day was here yesterday, and as we found great trouble in getting a satisfactory barring arrangement by means of ratchets, owing to the difficulties of providing the safety device, we have decided that the gear drive on the edge of the flywheel is the most satisfactory arrangement, and have been able to arrange this in a way that will permit of its easy fixing at any time, providing that before the chassis leave the works the gear ring, as nearly in hand, can be fitted to the flywheel, and a certain number of holes can be drilled in the dashboard, and in the angle iron carrying the armature plate.

These instructions will be in the hands of HY.{Tom Haldenby - Plant Engineer} we expect tomorrow, the 22nd. instant.

X.4197. We have also sent to Mr. Day this morning, the drawing of the R.R. air pump, and are relying on despatching the drive for same this evening.

At the same time, you will remember that it was decided that we should go on with the Maxfield pump and its drive, which we hope will be in the hand of the Production D.O. by Monday next.

The fitting of either of these pumps does not ential any serious alteration to the engine, so that either of these pumps can be fitted to an engine with out particularly skilled labour, providing that certain small and quick operations are done to the engines before they leave the works.
