| COPY. x262 FILING 32, Montpelier Square, LONDON, S.W.7. 18.3.36. Dear Harry, I have fought your battles at the R.A.C. Competition Committee to-day and made myself thoroughly a nuisance. (1) The variation desired in getting increased compression by thickening top of cyl. head will be allowed. It may involve a scrutineer, with a standard cyl. head produced for comparison to show it isn't all different. (2) I don't think you could prove your allegations about weights of Rileys - hearsay is n.b.g. Anyhow, it is likely that more attention will be paid to weighing in future - verb. sap! (3) It is quite obvious that one cannot lay down a No. of chassis to be sold to make it a standard model. It depends on the size of the manufacturer. Definitely the model has to be catalogued and offered for sale before a certain date. And our people make pretty searching enquiries as to how many have been sold and how many laid down (over 100 of that model Riley were sold). (4) T.T. Bodies. If Astons had to alter their bodies from Le Mans to T.T., then they swindled at the former. Both are under identical A.I.A.C.R. rules, but it is quite possible that you can get away with it at Le Mans with an extra bottle of wine ? ! The same will apply this year only that I think you can probably fit a 2 seater French Sports Grand Prix body if you prefer, but I am doubtful if it will be much advantage. (5) The rules as settled this afternoon ( a lot more alterations; e.g. straight ?, if desired, were made) will probably be the fixed ones unless something unexpected happens. Hall had a big letter of "wants" in - why didn't he and Bentley's include the request for the cylinder head variation ?. I think that was all. Yours, Guy. | ||
