Gentlemen,

In reply to your letter ref. Wd{Mr Wood/Mr Whitehead}13/NJ20826. We have examined both pairs of tungsten contacts, and as you state, there does seem to be a certain amount of oxidation on the contacts RR-Reynolds.

In both cases, we find that the contacts have pitted badly, which may be due to a faulty earth from the rocker arm. We also find that on No.2 Remy set, that the tungsten has worn down very considerably, apparently in excess of those RR-Reynolds.

We would like to mention that we have not had a complaint re the oxidation previously, and should like to hear if this is an isolated case, or have the other 11 pairs supplied on May 1st. gone likewise.

Regarding the purity of the tungsten, we do not know if the Remy is supposed to be pure tungsten or an alloy. The RR-Reynolds are what is termed commercially pure tungsten, that is 99.9%.

It would be interesting to see the condition after 10,000 miles of the RR-Reynolds on make and break under standard conditions as given to Remy.

If you should think there is anything else which might assist you, you may rest assured we will do everything in our power to attain that end.

With compliments.

Yours faithfully,
W.H. REYNOLDS & CO.

2 sets contacts returned.
