Coverley - Production Engineer} Mx.{John H Maddocks - Chief Proving Officer} Da.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} E.3/HP.19.1.37. Phantom III Brakes. Referring to memo E.4/HP.2.12.36 which was circulated in connection with arranging the front brake gear and rebound buffers on Phantom III so that the front wheels could turn on the jacks, the position then was that by fitting harder rebound rubbers and sacrificing one click on the adjustment corresponding to 3 1/2 thousandths on the brake shoe a chassis as sent out of these works would comply in respect to the wheels turning. Since then at a discussion with Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Gry.{Shadwell Grylls} and Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/AFM{Anthony F. Martindale} it was agreed that we could not afford to throw away the one click on the adjustment in which case it was thought the larger number of chassis as sent away would get by with the harder rubbers alone and that the others would soon be free after the brakes had been in use a short time. We have never agreed to the brakes being slacked off to free the front wheels for washing purposes. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} [Signature] | ||
