FROM E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} C. to HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} ORIGINAL E1/M1.10.27. X8010 SPORTS PHANTOM - CRANKCHAMBER. Would you kindly arrange to make the general thickness of the new crankchamber .225 instead of our present standard for chassis work, .25. This will then be half way between chassis and aero engine practice. We should also be glad if you could make the necessary alterations for holding the main bearing caps by means of studs instead of bolts carried right through. This will save a lot of weight, complication, and cost. The alterations should be carried out on the lines of LeC. 2421., using however the existing form of main bearing caps and the present diameter of crankshaft journal.
