BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} FROM DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} C. to HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} ORIGINAL DA{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}1/M1.10.27. X421 X8810 X4586 X3580 NARROWER WIRE WHEELS - PHANTOM. Herewith we send N. sch. 2477. shewing a proposal for reducing the width of the standard wire wheels, by making use of the artillery wheel hubs. The stationary hubs for the latter have been slightly modified to make a seating for the wire wheels, but either type of wheel can now be used on the same hub. It will be noticed that the thicknesses of the parts have been reduced in a good many cases with a view to reducing weight. The drawing of the wire wheel and outer hub is intended as a suggestion of what might be done, as it appears to us, and we should like it taken up with the wheel makers, and any comments they have to make sent on to us so that we can modify the design if desirable. We are awaiting particulars of the Rudge-Whitworth wheels so that we may compare them. DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} | ||
