P3 valves 354 To E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} from Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Swdl.{Len H. Swindell} c. to HPS.{Horace Percy Smith - Experimental Factory Mgr} Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Swdl.{Len H. Swindell}3/BJ.24.4.37. Modified Tappet Block and Clamp, LEC.5371. Now that we have tried the small base circle camshaft, any modifications that are proceeding with regard to the clamp and tappet block should be made applicable to the standard base circle camshaft only. This memo on account of the previous LEC's on this clamp and method of tappet guide location having been shown in conjunction with the small base circle camshaft, LEC.5320. The scheme, LEC.5371 has been run for 1 hour endurance only together with the small base circle camshaft, but appears quite satisfactory. Though it possesses the merits of a cheaper clamp and more definite location of the tappet guide we must at least have more experience and run a 15,000 miles test before adoption.
