turns from the top. The remaining valve springs do not show any fractures. There has been no appreciable wear in the valve guides. The valve mechanism has been generally noisy.

ENGINE GEAR.

There has been rattles from the engine gears when hot. The friction damping load not being sufficient.

OIL PUMP IOP. E.33958.

We had several occasions when the oil pressure became low through foreign matter getting underneath the oil release valve. The draining of the oil sump each day for consumption purposes may have an influence in this respect as there is very little trouble in service.

The main oil pipe broke twice which caused a loss of oil. The cause is probably due to weakening the pipe at the brazed joints, filling up after brazing, in both fractures it was the change in section where the break took place.

BREATHER TO CRANKCASE.

The small breather was inadequate for high speeds and a quantity of oil was drawn up the breather and burnt away by the engine. A larger breather, incorporating the filler to the crankcase overcame the trouble.

LOSS OF OIL FROM REAR OF ENGINE INTO CLUTCH PIT.

With the fitting of the improved breather this loss was practically stopped.

CARBURETTERS.

2 - 1 1/8 S.U. Carburetters.
Hot spot pipes fitted to R.R. Sch. 108.

There has been no trouble with the carburetters, power and acceleration of the engine has been maintained. There has been no hesitation of the engine starting from cold and no time was lost before the car could be driven away. Air silencers were taken off as they were of no value.
