Further, that Ed.{J. L. Edwards} should endeavour to obtain a reduction on the amount of £7.15.0 for such conversion. The view the Committee take is that £7.15.0 is too big a charge for the alteration of unused Dynamos although it might not be considered too high for the conversion of Dynamos which have been in service and consequently can only be looked upon as secondhand. The Committee would like to point out that we are really under contract with Lucas to take these 100 to 150 Dynamos and that the decision as to whether we take them lies with Lucas. Further the decision as to whether we take them if we go to a new firm for the Dynamos and another firm for the Cut-out and R.R. for the Switchbox it would cost more than the difference of £7.15.0 which we are proposing to pay Lucas. Also going to a new firm would in all probability lead to a good bit of trouble. The Committee took the view that in all probability we shall not call upon Lucas to rebuild (1" longer) all Dynamos which have been fitted to post-war cars but only those about which we have complaints and possibly those in the hands of important owners, whose running conditions would render it necessary.

THE ATTENTION OF THE WORKS COMMITTEE WAS DRAWN TO THE NECESSITY OF A DECISION BEING TAKEN IMMEDIATELY WITH REGARD TO THE MATTERS DEALT WITH AT THE TWO CONFERENCES WITH MESSRS LUCAS AS UNTIL SUCH DECISION IS CONVEYED TO WD.{Mr Wood/Mr Whitehead} HE CANNOT TAKE ACTION. AND THE COMMITTEE DESIRE IT TO BE UNDERSTOOD THAT THEY EXPECT THE DECISION WILL BE COMMUNICATED TO MR. WHITEHEAD BY MR. ROYCE AND MR. CLAUDE JOHNSON.
