As a result of the fitting of two Smith
type 2D dynamos on the two experimental cars 6 EX and 49-GB
and the good results, in respect of small miles per hour,
for cutting in and output observed by Mr. Hives, it was
considered desirable to interview Messrs. Smith's represent-
ative as to the possibility of their supplying us with
suitable switchboard for use with the Smith dynamo on the
car. With this end in view we received a visit from
Mr. Lock of Messrs. Smiths on Thursday afternoon, in order
to discuss this question. Mr. Lock brought along with him
another sample of their bezel operated switch, but it was
agreed and explained to Mr. Lock that this particulara switch
was not the type of thing we should require. After some
discussion, during most of which it seemed that there was
no easy way out of the difficulty, as it was not considered
feasible (from a policy point of view) to fit Smith
dynamos to the cars to operate with the present Lucas
switchbox, (This would be electrically quite possible, but
would not secure the advantage of the use of the Smith
cut-out which, although bulky, has, so far as
