we have [handwritten above: has] experimented with, appeared to be quite reliable and to have a much smaller range of variation than the Lucas; in fact, a range which is considered not a bit greater than is desirable), the first alternative of the three set out below was suggested as being the most expedient. The three alternatives are :-

(1) The use of a switchboard somewhat similar to the present Lucas, including the same switches and connections, but with the addition of a Weston ammeter and a main dynamo fuse, but the omission of the cutout and the field fuse, as in the Smith system the field fuse is contained in the Smith cut-out. The Smith cut-out would be used supported independently on the front of the dash, and the Lucas junction box on the front of the dash would be exactly similar to the Lucas junction box as at present, but made by R.R. instead of Messrs. Lucas.

(2) The use of the new R.R. switchbox made for the R.R. earthed wiring system, together with a new distribution board comprising all the necessary connections for both positive and negative sides, but no cut-out.

(3) A complete change over to the earthed wiring system with a small R.R. distribution board, omitting the cut-out at present contained.
