Mx.{John H Maddocks - Chief Proving Officer} Bly.{B. W. Bleaney - Bentley Sales} B.4.G.A. - LONDON TRIALS. This car was sent back to Derby with a complaint of unsatisfactory clutch (Cx.{Major Len W. Cox - Advertising Manager}9/KW.30.11.36.) We agree that rattles in the transmission were bad when the clutch was engaged. We confirm the opinion that this was due mainly to slack developing in the transmission and not to clutch deterioration. To prove the point we fitted a propeller shaft damper which under test conditions round Derby overcame the trouble. We are returning it like this and should be glad to have your opinion of it under London conditions. Before sending the car back we are inspecting the main bearings as there is a sign of the thump which indicates hammering out. This is not nearly so pronounced as on Raymond May's car.
