Description: Pinion bearing with .002 - .003 preload and .025 elongation of holes in the cages.
Purpose: To reduce service complaint of loss of preload and to prevent cage failure.
Brief Report and Remarks: Successfully completed 30 hours on 3rd. gear on dynamometer which is more than the standard bearing will do.
Has run 500 hours on rig test at Ransome & Marles.
2,000 cars in the hands of customers are potential cases of this axle trouble. By trying the improved bearing which can be no worse, in the last half of 'M' series we may get proof that we have found a satisfactory way of dealing with service complaints which total over 100 per year.
