Re: Phantom III Chassis 3.AZ.60 - Mr Raphael - Mileage 25,164.

We are sending six connecting rods taken out of this car, to the Works for BY's examination.

There was no complaint from the Owner of this car in respect of engine trouble, but having gained the following facts, I advised Cricklewood to examine the bearings, and they were in such a poor condition that six new rods have been fitted.

The car left Cricklewood on Nov. 3rd. the mileage being 16,135, and since that date and its return to Cricklewood for a decarb: on the 18th. of January, the car had run a further 9029 miles. The car had been to America, therefore approximately in five weeks this mileage had been attained. The chauffeur had informed Messervy that for two days the car had not ceased running, shifts of eight hours being taken by three persons. Maximum speeds had been maintained for long stretches.

The car ran perfectly with the exception of the armature of the dynamo burning out, which they had re-wound over there.

The state of the con-rod bearings was such that a failure would have occurred in the near future.
