OLIVE JOINT.

This has been fairly satisfactory on small diameter pipes, such for instance, as the Luvax .156" diameter piping, but we have been troubled with oil leaks from the same type of joint on the shock damper system where .312" diameter pipes are used. The latter pipes probably collapse rather than make an oil tight joint between the olive and the pipe.

BANJO TYPE JOINT.

This has given endless trouble in service, and there is little to commend it, although it is still used on certain pipes on our engines. The chief difficulty is the lack of radial location of the banjo, with the result that on tightening the nut, the banjo tries to twist round, thus straining the pipe.
