(2) is over bad roads at 10-15. m p h.{Arthur M. Hanbury - Head Complaints} Commencing at approx 47.mph. the valve springs set up "fluttering" noise. Tappet clearance varies from cold .002" to hot 80°C .005-6" . For quietness they are not up to standard, yet not objectionable. We have had some mis-firing trouble at full throttle slow speed. This we attributed to oxidized spark plugs. The trouble disappeared after changing the magneto plugs, cutting the gaps down to .020" instead of .025" ..... During the first 1,200 miles the engine "dropped" .012" this was due to the rubber blocks in the engine feet settling. The last 700 miles have been covered over exceptionally bad roads, and the engine position has remained constant. Starter motor failed to engage once, but we have had no further trouble. Charging cut-out works excellently the battery has only needed topping up once since leaving the works. Petrol consumption is approx 13.2 mpg............ Oil...............none required............... Steering. This is very good under all conditions, about the best I have tried. It is light to handle slow speeds, A.1. for town work, very adaptable for shunting, and quite steady at high speeds. Worn joggles on the steering wheel, these have manifestly disappeared to nothing of import. No oil has been required in the steering box............ con't | ||
