For the attention of Mr. Skinner. Dear Sirs, I thank you for your letter of the 14th inst., concerning the pumps you took back with you. I have made enquiries with regard to the pump RB.{R. Bowen}1556 G.M.1, in which you state the valves were wrongly assembled. This pump actually failed on the road, which rules out the possibility that this was the cause of the failure in the first place, and as the pumps were not touched in any way, we can only assume that the valves were put back wrongly after the pump was inspected in your presence. We should be glad therefore if you would continue to test this pump in a similar manner to RB.{R. Bowen}759.G.M.1, and then give us some explanation as the original failures on the rig you witnessed. RB.{R. Bowen}1007 G.M.1. This pump you admit had a warped valve, probably due to wrong assembly of the retaining spring clip. We feel that if the inspection of our pumps was sufficiently rigid, cases of this kind and also the bad finish of the valve seatings which you saw would be eliminated. RB.{R. Bowen}861 G.M.1. We have been unable to find an explanation of the piece of flint (possibly a chip off an Arkansas stone) as it would not be possible for this to get into the pipe even if the filter were cleaned on the road. We feel, however, that it would be to our mutual benefit if some form of blank was fitted onto the pump unions before despatch, as this would | ||
