To L.Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} from DA{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}/EV.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork} [Illegible] [Illegible] c. to Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} ****************** RE 20 HP.INSTRUMENT BOARD AND SCUTTLE ISOLATION. ********************** We took up the question of the difficulty of dealing with the raked column 20 HP. car in the matter of the instrument board and scuttle isolation at Derby with the Design Committee and Works. (DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer}) We shewed them a Barker Saloon raked column dealt with in the following manner. The scuttle was entirely isolated from the dashboard save for the two top rubber washered bolts. The instrument board was carried off the body only, and the off-side instrument board bracket was the only one used as it did nothing more than to steady the column. We could not obtain their sanction to this method of treatment, and the column was considered not sufficiently rigid. The conclusion arrived at was that our original instructions should be continued, namely, that the instrument board should be carried on the instrument board brackets and should also be fastened strongly to the scuttle by means of two angle brackets and substantial wood screws. The scuttle should be isolated save for the rubber washered upper bolts. They tell us that this has worked perfectly satisfactory on experimental cars provided that the fixing of the instrument board to the scuttle is well done. Contd:- | ||
