The following work has been carried out since the car was released for test on 23.9.38. involving modifications to the specification and I.O.F's. 1. Temporary 3" rear spring shackles fitted. The FCD.690 2" shackles incorporating jack brackets were not satisfactory. The brackets fouled the road on full bump and came up against the wings when jacking up. The 2" shackles are considered too short for the 7" static deflection springs. 2. Rubber off stop GW.2093 for handbrake removed and GW.394 metal stop fitted. The rubber stop used up too much of the useful travel of the hand brake. If rubber is to be used it must be arranged so that the travel is not reduced. 3. Stop pins GB.3711 in servo levers removed and standard K.6605 pins fitted. The stop pins seriously limit the useful travel of the servo cams. It has been agreed that they should be deleted. 4. Rear brake equalizer EX.3742 filed away where fouling G.8450/ jaws. This foul occured at the extreme travel of the Girling wedges (tested by removing brake drums). 5. Pipes to front dampers from damper control unit dis-connecte We find experimentally that the control is only required to the rear dampers. 6. Idler lever GB.3567 in damper control filed away to clear actuating lever GB.3564 in minimum position. | ||
