| COPY. SRN4/W2143. May 3rd. 1921. Mr. Claude Johnson, Managing Director, Rolls-Royce Ltd., London, ENGLAND. Dear Sir: Re. COMPLAINTS. We are receiving a large number of complaints from customers regarding the noises which eminate from the rear end of the rear springs. This applies to both the thick leaf type springs, and some of the thin leaf type, which we have fitted at the owners request. We are curing this trouble by fitting wearing plates which fit the rear springs roller with .005 to .010 side play. On a number of the cars this clatter has been serious, and a copy of a typical complaint is enclosed herewith from Mr. Heckscher. We are arranging to change his springs to the thin leaf type, and fit new wearing plates. We should be glad to have your advice as to what should be done with the other cars which have this defect. We are dealing with the more serious complaints, but all imported cars suffer with this defect, and we think a general policy change order number should be instructed covering all imported cars. We should be glad of your early instructions in this matter. We beg to remain, Yours faithfully, ROLLS ROYCE of AMERICA INC. Service Dept. | ||
