M.51.MG 3rd August, 1939. W.A. Robotham, Esq., Rolls-Royce, Ltd., Derby. Dear Mr. Robotham, I do not think there is doubt that, from a technical aspect, the most interesting article which has appeared in the July issues of THE MOTOR, and, for that matter, in this periodical for a long time, is one relating to the effects of streamlining at normal speeds, which appeared in the issue of July 25. Comparative tests showed not only a fuel consumption of 40 m.p.g. at 60 m.p.h. on a 12 h.p. model, but also that even from 30 m.p.h. a streamlined job would run 100 yards farther than a conventional saloon of similar weight. New car announcements have been as follow:- Riley Sixteen, July 4; SS{S. Smith}, Standard and B.S.A. coupé, July 25. A point of particular interest on the SS{S. Smith} is the use of air conditioning, the installation being shown in our photogravure pages of the same date. The Technical Review of July 18 dealt with Valves and Valve Seat Inserts, and road tests have been reported on:- July 4 1,100 c.c. H.R.G. Atalanta July 11 12 h.p. Riley Sprite Humber Pullman | ||
