Bailey - Chief Engineer} Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Gry{Shadwell Grylls}2/R.29.4.37. re: Petrol Pumps. Replying to Sg{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD}15/E28.4.37., we never intended to imply that a petrol pump would deteriorate if carried as a spare on the car, unless it were fitted up in position under the bonnet, but with no petrol in it. We know that under this condition the diaphragms would have a very short life. There seems no objection at all to carrying a spare pump in a cool place on the car, except that the customer will find it takes quite a long time to change pumps.
