Report of Experimental Bench Tests.

Two of the above magnetos were received at these works on 13.2.20 having been despatched to us for the purpose of test by our U.S.A. people. A short preliminary report on these was sent under cover of our EFC1/T22.12.20. One of these magnetos has now been put through our experimental bench tests with the following results:-

Magneto No. 718237.

(1) Weight 14.1 lbs.

(2) For remarks re mechanical and electrical design see preliminary report. Further details in this connection are contained in Mr. Olley's note Cy/2/F27.10.19.
We are sending down to Mr. Royce for his examination a machine that has been through the experimental bench tests, owing to the fact that these tests have shown the machines up fairly favourably.

(3) & (4) The air gap and the high tension safety gap dimensions were unobtainable conveniently.

(5) The distributor dimensions are according to the sketch herewith:- These dimensions are on the small side as compared with the Watford and especially with the Bosch.

[Sketch of a distributor component with dimensions .61", .30", and 1.13"]

Overlap X at advance = .13"
" " retard = .36"
