re. 20-HP Faulty Dynamo. 47-G-3.

We have received from Cricklewood a dynamo from the above chassis, which they report is faulty and does not charge correctly, and which they have now replaced.

We have today returned this dynamo to Mr. Brock (No. 92).

On examination of same we noted the following:-
1. Signs of the solder melting from the commutator. It would evidently appear that the dynamo had been overheating.
We would suggest that this trouble was possibly due to the positive brush sparking in the brush holder for some reason, or it might be that a new brush had been put in and very badly fitted.

2. Positive brush bedding only on extreme corner.

3. Brush holder burnt at the base.

4. The dynamo as received has the cover badly dented, also 1 drop handle nut and washer missing, also driving piece missing.

We shall be glad if you will let us have a r report on this failure, consideration being given to the following:-

(a) Cause of failure, and can it be in any way considered due to faulty attention etc.

(b) Possibility of other dynamos behaving similarly.

(c) Can any action be taken to prevent recurrence of such failures while cars are in customers' hands.
