| 261a. Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}2/ML. Feb: 15th. 1940. R.Summers,Esq., Shotton, Chester. Dear Dick, Thank you for your letter of February 13th. I will make some enquiries regarding Colonel Kenwrick-Cox's son, who is hoping to be taken on at Derby as an unpaid apprentice. If he has any qualifications I might be able to get him into the Factory, otherwise I am afraid his chances depend largely upon his personality. With regard to the clutch on your car, I hardly like to suggest that this is a thrust race since I anticipate that you should be able to diagnose such a simple fault. However, I know of no other trouble which produces the noise you mention so I suggest you have a look at the part in question. If you see a number of brass and steel particles round the lubrication hole it is likely to be a sign that the thrust race is disintegrating. Incidentally, you can help me a little bit. We want to get some lead coated sheet steel for making petrol tanks, in a gauge as thin as .022. We do not know of any in existence in the country at the present moment that is thinner than .037. - Continued.- | ||
