(4457) Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Wst.2/MA. 16th October, 1933. Mr.E.C.McKinnon, Messrs. The Chloride Electrical Storage Co.Ltd., Exide Works, Clifton Junction, Nr.Manchester. Dear Mr.McKinnon, Many thanks for your letter of the 14th instant reference ECM/LJ. We much appreciate your remarks regarding the battery acid indicator. Since further considering this instrument we have found out that it only accounts for the acid level in one particular cell and as the rate of evaporation varies considerably in our experience, from cell to cell this indicator would be of little use in determining the average acid level of the cells. Another point about this instrument is that it work on contact principal, consequently at the point when the acid is about to break contact the affect of going up or down hill or over a bumpy road would cause the needle to be always oscillating. We still think however that there is a good market for a reliable indicator of battery electrolyte level, and we wonder whether you think it worth while to have the matter investigated by your technical experts. We need hardly say that we should be quite willing to test out any devices you may have in the running. | ||
