X1091 TELEPHONE 8081 (7 LINES). TELEGRAMS: "ROVER,"COVENTRY". THE ROVER COMPANY LTD. COVENTRY, ENG. SBW:ME. April 18th 1936 W.A.Robotham Esq., Messrs. Rolls-Royce Ltd, Derby. Dear Robotham, Machinery is in motion with regard to a car for Grylls. I shall be able to let him know definitely on Tuesday or Wednesday at the latest, and if one can possibly be produced I can promise you it will be forthcoming. Many thanks for your offer with regard to tyre noise. We have just received the first sample bodies off the dies so that in a week or two's time we shall have the car on the road and shall know whether we are in this trouble or not. I am expecting to have the first 20-h.p. cars out in September. It is difficult to place it any more accurately than that at the moment as there are still one or two points to be cleared up, but as the major components interchange with the 16-h.p. there is no reason why they should not be available by then. I expect the price will be in the neighbourhood of £450. Our intention in making a 20-h.p. is to take what will be substantially the 16-h.p. Sports Saloon and put into it the 20-h.p. engine and any other special equipment and fittings that we think are worth having, and generally make it as good as we know how. I expect it will replace the present Speed Fourteen. | ||
