2nd. July, 1920.

J.W. Fawcett, Esq.,
c/o Messrs. T. Firth & Sons, Ltd.,
Norfolk Works,
SHEFFIELD.

Dear Mr. Fawcett, 2628

X.2768. RE ROAD SPRINGS. X.3881.

During our discussion on the 30th ultimo, the following points were decided:-
NIB AND SLOT. -These features were never desired to be incorporated in our springs, and we are quite of the opinion that they are better left off. We shall not require more than the plates to have accuarate side dimensions so that they will fit the central clip bolts without undue slack, and the use of a clip binding the last three plates together at the end of the third long plate.

As regards to the finish, you will remember that we have to provide the coachbuilders with a sufficiently good finish to enable them to do the highest class of paint work. We fear, therefore, that the whole of the external surface of the spring will have to be ground or in some way treated, to remove the roughness as well as the scale. It is understood that you are going to send to the works the finish that it is suggested should be adopted. The finish will be submitted to the London coachbuilders, including Barkers and Hoopers.

Contd.
