Contd: -2- 5th November, 1936. Messrs. Rolls-Royce, Ltd. You will probably agree that had these Rollers been made in production an error of this description would not have occured as they were being put through in numbers which would complete the case-hardening boxes, and the error, if it had got that far, would have been found out by the test piece in the box. We note in your letter that you state that the Writer mentioned that Ball Bearing Manufacturers might be expected to make Rollers in non-case hardening steel. May we, for the object of letting there be no misunderstanding on this subject, correct you in this particular statement as what the Writer did say was that Ball Bearing Manufacturers were used to making their components in ball race steel and the trouble with them, which we have experienced as a result of this procedure, is that they ground all the case off one side of the Rollers and practically none off the other side. We also stated that at the time we were dealing with the Ball Bearing Manufacturers they were very loathe to do any case hardening at all. Again apologising and assuring you of every effort to ensure such mistakes not occuring in future, We are, Yours faithfully, for ADAMANT ENGINEERING COMPANY, LIMITED. A Marland Managing Director. | ||
