Radiators.

Immediately following our Conference on the 31st ult. I wrote Greenwood & Batley Ltd. regarding failure of "D" section tubes and, at the same time, asked them if they would be prepared to supply to us a tube testing rig like the one they employ.

Their reply, dated 5th inst. is to hand this morning, as follows:-

"With further reference to your letter of the 31st "May re complaint "D" Section Tubes, we have gone care-"fully in this matter and after many experiments we have "not been able to find any faults in our tubes.
"Similar tubes have been tested and carefully exam-"ined by our chemist and we find the crystals of the "metal in such a position that we cannot understand how "splitting is possible.
"The tubes are drawn round and afterwards flattened "in a handpress. The water test is applied after the "tubes are finished and they are viewed again before "packing. We should be pleased if you would return the "remaining "D" Section tubes along with a few faulty ones. "We should pass these tubes through the 15 lbs. air "pressure test and the faulty tubes could be examined and "lead us to a final conclusion.
"We have a patented apparatus for testing tubes, but "considering that each tube is tested before leaving our "Works, we think it not necessary for you to retest the "tubes before assembling.
"We however shall be pleased to furnish particulars "and quote you for this apparatus if you still desire us "to do so."

This matter might be dealt with at tomorrow's Confer-
ence.
