Messrs. Bentley Motors Ltd. Derby. For the attention of Mr. Hives Dear Sirs, I have a 4 1/4-litre Bentley chassis No.B.102.GA, and have had rather an unfortunate time with it, mostly over details, but there are one or two essentials in which I consider improvement could be made. Incidentally, I may say that of all the cars I have owned since the War, it is the only touring car on which I have had to be towed in to a garage. Leaving out the "teething" troubles, during the last three weeks I have had the following details:- (1) 20th August: Failure of the distributor rotor due to a short developed between the blade and the spindle right through the bakelite material of the mushroom head. This occurred late at night on my way back from Bristol and I had to be towed into Maidenhead as it was impossible to find the fault single-handed at the roadside. (2) 2nd September: Complete failure of petrol pump. Although the electrical connections were sound as the pump would pump air when the inlet and outlet pipes were disconnected, this failed completely when I was on holiday, and let me down from turning up at a golf competition, much to the amusement of my friends who were on rather less expensive cars.
