X.6022. BOYCE ELECTRIC CLOCK NO.601 ex 58-GN.

We duly received this instrument and I instructed an examination to be made. Having done this my assistant reports as follows :-

"From an examination of this instrument we found that the hand setting knob had been broken off at the spindle within the case of the clock.

When connected to a battery the clock would not operate and it was found that the internal circuit was not complete.

From further testing it was discovered that by tilting the clock in a certain manner, something inside, apparently a loose part, temporarily made contact thus closing the circuit and permitting the clock to operate (wind?) momentarily. Operation automatically broke the circuit again."

It would appear from the above that something has gone wrong in this clock but whether this is a result of ordinary use or whether some mishap has befallen this clock, we do not know. It would be helpful if someone who has observed the functioning of this clock during the time it has been on your car, could give us a report on its performance and any particular vicissitudes through which it has passed. We will postpone communicating with the makers and, as will be necessary, returning the clock, until we have further information.
