Messrs Rolls Royce Limited,
DERBY.
Dear Sirs,
For the attention of Mr. S. H.{Arthur M. Hanbury - Head Complaints} Grylls
-----------------------------
We thank you for your letter reference Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Gry{Shadwell Grylls}4/R of the 3rd August, and will be pleased to arrange for the proposed test on our Cornell Machine.
You are probably aware that the temperature of the oil in the bath rises continuously throughout the test, and in the case of some types of E.P. Lubricant the temperature is slightly above 130°C at the conclusion. It would, however, be possible to pre-heat the oil before commencing the test if you desire the whole test carried out under elevated temperature conditions. Normally the test is started with the oil at atmospheric temperature.
A quantity of one half-gallon of oil would be ample for the purpose, and if in forwarding this you would kindly indicate the temperature at which you would like the test started, we would be glad to arrange accordingly.
For your further information we normally carry out such tests at the generally accepted figure of 1500 lbs load for a period of one hour, the rate of load increment being controlled during the loading-up period.
UNLESS STATED OTHERWISE ALL OILS ARE QUOTED AND INVOICED PER UNIT GALLON OF 9 LBS. AND ALL QUOTATIONS ARE WITHOUT ENGAGEMENT
