x4586 To Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} from JS.{Mr Johnson's Secretary} JS{Mr Johnson's Secretary}3/E17/9/24 Will you please note the following extract from notes of a conference held yesterday between R.{Sir Henry Royce}, CJ., BJ. and Wor{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager}:- BJ asked R.{Sir Henry Royce} whether it would not be possible to provide steel wheels which could be exchanged for wire wheels without its being necessary to exchange the hubs. R.{Sir Henry Royce} says that he wishes it to be confirmed that discs make an objectionable noise if the hubs are big enough. R.{Sir Henry Royce} says that he would rather have the noise of discs than a bad design of steel wheels. Sankey wheels may become universal and we ought to make as good a job of these wheels as possible. Would you please supply R.{Sir Henry Royce} with the necessary confirmation or otherwise of the report that disc wheels, if the hubs are big enough, make an objectionable noise?
