X2628 c. to Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} EP{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer}6/H9.3.23. re. 40/50 Chassis, Side Clearance in Rear Spring Roller Plates. Springfield complain that if full advantage is taken of the maximum limit .017" that knocking still takes place. We have been carefully examining these on our 40/50 chassis on test, but have not experienced this trouble. We do not find, as a matter of fact, that our clearance exceeds .012". We think .017" is rather excessive, and shall be glad if you will consider this limit being cut down so as not to exceed .012". We shall be glad if you will give consideration to making this alteration and instructing Springfield in the usual way. EP.{G.
