X3362. RE LIGHTING INSTALLATION AT WEST WITTERINGHenry Royce's home town.

With reference to the incandescent lamps you have sent us, the first one after burning 7 ½ hours has turned quite black. This has run on the natural voltage of the six volt Willard cell battery while discharging, that is, it has never been across the terminals of the battery when the dynamo is running, and therefore the volts ought never to have exceeded what such lamps would get in the ordinary course of running. In fact, in car lighting the lights would be on the same time as the charging current was running into the cell, and therefore the voltage would probably be much higher than during discharge.

I was not aware that metal filament lamps blackened their bulbs

I do not believe these lamps give 1cp for 1 watt.
