ORIGINAL FROM E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} C. to HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} J.{Mr Johnson W.M.} 3. OIL LEVEL INDICATOR. E2/M26.9.31. x5000. We send you herewith LeC. 2954. shewing the above. This particular design of indicator is arranged so that the whole of the apparatus is in one unit and can be attached and detached from the lower half of the crankcase as such, the float being threaded through a hole in the flange face to which the indicator is bolted. Such a scheme should be ideal for production purposes as well as possessing other important advantages. No features are called for on the upper half of the crankcase. The indicator dial is marked in a new way, so that when the pointer is at its minimum position there is still a gallon of oil in the sump. Further-more the maximum position is arranged to take advantage of the drop in level which occurs after the engine has been started. We are expecting to use this same indicator on Peregrine.
