BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} FROM E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} C. to S. WGR. HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} E1/M26.9.31. 20/25. BALANCE WEIGHTS. X5010 EIGHT WT. SCH. FOR EXISTING FORGINGS. We send you herewith LeC. 2955. shewing the above. Weights which are not symmetrical with the carrying studs are considered very undesirable owing to greatly increased maximum stress in the stud occasioned by the eccentric loading. We have therefore removed the overhung portion of the balance weight and substituted a strip on the outside of equal polar moment to avoid bringing down the master period. This results in less of the big end being counter balanced, but experiment will shew if weight given on LeC. 2955. is sufficient for the purpose in view. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} | ||
