With regard to your memo about oil getting on the rear brakes of this car, we are not quite sure how the oil is escaping from the wheel bearing. Next to the upset flange of the spring seat there is the adjusting washer, followed by the carrier plate, followed by the flange of the wheel bearing housing. Owing to the fact that the carrier plate is not machined 8.B.V. has always had a tendency to leak oil at this joint on both seats of the carrier plate. See sketch.

We should like you to confirm that this is the only place from which oil is escaping, and that none is getting past the oil seal on the outside of the wheel bearing. We cannot believe that oil is escaping from what you call the rivets securing the spring seat, as these are actually 1 in 48 taper pins driven home.
