To Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} from HPS.{Horace Percy Smith - Experimental Factory Mgr} Handwritten: A.R.H. Any comments Puy HPS.{Horace Percy Smith - Experimental Factory Mgr}1/BA.24.10.38. Bentley III No.8-B-V.{VIENNA} Handwritten: 400 b. Re. the report on the above car, which is now in France. Item No.4 recommends that a drain hole be added to allow the water to escape, this has been taken care of by Alteration No.17946/F to drawing FB.2991, on September 12th, this is being done to all cars as the Radiator is removed. Item No.5 complains of the Front Brake Rods being out of alignment and causing sticking and holding the brakes on slightly. This we think is a case for Design, as it can be caused by several things, such as :- (1) Insufficient clearance between the jaws and rods. (2) The forward movement of the yoke along the Silentbloc bush, which will give us most of our trouble. (3) Very violent application of the brakes also has a tendency to strain and bend the levers. (4) The small clearances calls for a very accurate setting by the fitters, which we think will cause trouble on Production unless No.1 item is attended to.
