SECRET 200 (crossed out) 400 S/W To Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} from Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} Bentley III Sg{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD}10/E25.11.36 Copy to Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}E.P.Y. Referring to Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}2/R23.11.36 I discussed this matter with Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} yesterday and understand he has already spoken to you about it. It is agreed that we do not want to see the Bentley car increased in weight to something in the neighbourhood of 35 1/2/36 cwt. We feel that the best arrangement would be to carry on with the car as at present drawn out, with the idea in mind that we can easily make one with 3" shorter wheelbases if it is considered desirable to do so. Whilst it is realised that certain features you refer to will necessarily increase the weight, it is hoped that on the other hand ways and means may be found of saving weight on the chassis and that the body technique will improve in the meantime so that there will be a weight reduction there as well. I will keep the memo amongst my papers for discussion at the next chassis conference. Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} | ||
