81918b. Expl. Dept. Hs {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} /Rm. {William Robotham - Chief Engineer} 1/MJ. 24th. May 1932. Messrs. K.L.G. Sparking Plugs Ltd., Robinhood Engineering Works, Putney Vale, LONDON.S.W.15. For the attention of Major Carrington. Dear Major Carrington, We have now done a considerable amount of running on the L.K.S.5 plug. We have not noticed any very marked improvement in the slow running of these plugs when they were made in the long reach pattern, but we have satisfied ourselves that either plug appears to be free from preignition on the road. As the next step in the development of these small plugs, we propose to run L.K.S.5 plugs in adaptors in our experimental 25 HP cars in order to get some experience in handling them to see if they are mechanically strong and also to determine their resistence to oiling and carboning up. In order to do this, we should like to have one dozen long reach L.K.S.5 and one dozen short reach to enable us to equip our cars. We would like to point out that the long reach L.K.S.5 with which you supplied us recently were very difficult to handle, because the distance from the copper asbestos washer to the plug spanner hexagon was too short to be easily accessible with the ordinary plug spanner. The distance from the end of the plug thread to the bottom of the spanner hexagon should not be less than .600. Yours faithfully, For Rolls-Royce Ltd. | ||
