Rolls-Royce, Ltd., Derby. Dear Mr. Robotham, Your ref. Hs {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} /Rm. {William Robotham - Chief Engineer} 1/MJ. Thank you for your letter of May 24th. I am very pleased to hear that the L.K.S.5 is satisfactory from the pre-ignition point of view and that you are continuing your test with it. I am sending twelve each long and short L.K.S.5's as you request and hope to get these away to you in the course of a day or so. I have noted what you say about the shortness of the barrel and am also having some more plugs made up with barrels lengthened as you indicate. However, this will involve rather more time so I am not incorporating this alteration in the twenty-four which you want at once. I do not think that the lengthening of the barrel can affect the characteristic of the plug, but I should certainly like to give them a preliminary test here in their lengthened form before letting them go out. I will send models of the lengthened plug to you in order to ascertain whether they meet your views as regards dimensions. Yours faithfully, C. Carington. Director. | ||
