X.3445. COIL No.2981 EX CHASSIS 30-LK{L. King} MC.COWAN.

This coil is in a satisfactory sparking condition at present although it does not come up to our production specification. It functioned O.K. when first placed on the rig and continued to do so for several hours, although open circuited occasionally for 5 mins. at different times. It was accordingly put through a production test and differs from standard as follows :-

1. Secondary milliamps 185
2. Running current 1.05 amperes.
3. Primary volts 1.59
amps. 1.61

As the coil has not broken down whilst in our possession and it has passed through one of the most rigorous breaking down tests, viz. the open circuit test, there is not sufficient data to form a definite report on the fault of the coil, but owing to the fact that the secondary milliamps are high, it is considered to be a partial short circuit in the windings.

It is recommended that the coil be carefully unwound to ascertain this.
