X4635 RHC.{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer} c. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} c. Order Office. In order to try and overcome the failure of Swan Neck Pipes owing to the moisture corroding them at the top of the bend, I propose that you should prepare and send away, through the Order Office, three complete Swan Necks with the flange and nozzle fitted, instructing the Order Office to have same "calorized" inside and outside. The Order Office should let me know the price of doing the work, and upon receipt of the pipes I think they should be carefully examined and then put on Experimental Cars. The examination referred to should be with regard to the fittings at each end, to see that they have not suffered during the process of "calorizing" so as to deteriorate the connection between the fittings and the pipe.
