Miles run. 10,221. Running Time 276 hrs. 45 mins. Average speed 37.06 m.p.h. Petrol used 909.5 galls. Petrol consumption 11.23 m.p.g. Engine oil consumption 700 m.p.g. (this includes oil lost when extra oil pipe broke.) BRAKES. Brakes were good throughout tests and gave no trouble. Thumping on the front brakes was non-existent. Rear brakes squeaked badly towards end of test; this appears to have been due to proud rivets on brake liners. The rear brake drums were scored rather badly at finish of test; the scoring coinciding with the brake shoe rivets. These drums are of higher brinell than usual. Front brakes and drums in very good condition no scoring of drums had taken place. There was a certain amount of grease on the brake carriers, this having come through from the hubs. The hubs must have been filled too full before the car left Derby, as none was put in during the test. Lubricators were knocked off the end of the rear foot brake actuating shafts, apparently by stones. The front brake equaliser is not supported rigidly enough; the inside bracket has bent inwards considerably allowing the equaliser about 3/16" end play. The brass bushes that carry the equaliser are also badly worn. One pull-off spring on the O.S. hand brake has lost its tension and pulled out. Brake adjustments carried out are as follows :- N.S.F. 1 notch. N.S.R. 5 notches. O.S.F. 2 notches. O.S.R. 3 notches. Servo. 4 notches EXHAUST SYSTEM. The butterfly throttle in the down pipe has given no trouble. It has never stuck, rattled or squeaked, and there are no exhaust blows from it. contd :- | ||
