-3- Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/FJH.{Fred J. Hardy - Chief Dev. Engineer}2/KW.26.6.35. We also suspect that the crowning of the sides of the cam track may be a useful line of attack, although we do not know to what extent the La{L. A. Archer} Salle gear is crowned. Our programme of experiments on the SpectreCodename for Phantom III gear is as follows. (1) Two experimental cams identical to present design except that crowning of track is reduced from 0.005 to zero and 0.002 respectively. It is possible that the cam with zero crowning is impracticable. These cams are at present being made by the Adamant Engineering Co. (2) Cam bearings with a more acute cone angle. This is at present being prepared by the Design Dept. (3) The Design Dept. are also drawing cams of less helix angle combined with a pendulum lever increased from 7.000 to 8.000 long. This is almost certain to cause an improvement but it will not explain the difference between the La{L. A. Archer} Salle and the R.R. gears. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/F.J.Hardy. | ||
