R.R. 255 a (400 T) S.C. 536. 15-2-16 G.{Mr Griffiths - Chief Accountant / Mr Gnapp} 1545. To Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} Mr. Ellis from EFC. 26th Sept. 1916. BY/EFC4/MP26916. Mr. Olley has asked me to make some power and efficiency tests on the Car Starter motor, in order to compare the efficiencies of the 3 types of armature with different numbers of slots, namely, 51, 48. & 45. We propose, if possible, in each case to use 2 exactly similar motors, and make what is known as a Hopkinson test with the 2 motors coupled together. This will entail the use of 2 complete Field Magnet Casings, with be-arings, brushes, etc. and 2 complete armatures of each type. The 51 slot, and 48 slots are important, but if there are not 2 45 slot armatures available, we shall let the latter go untested. Can we get together the necessary stuff? We are informed that we may make use of the complete motor from 7CA, if necessary, which contains the armature of 51 slots. If we cannot obtain the necessary motor parts, we shall make ordinary mechanical brakes tests. This, of course, will require just half the number of parts of every kind. Will you please see what you can do for us in this matter, and let us know. When we have decided exactly what tests we are going to make, we will let you know what instruments we will require and shall be very glad of your kind assistance in this matter. EFC.
