1069 TELEPHONE 5041 COVENTRY. TELEGRAMS: HUMBER, COVENTRY. HUMBER LTD. COVENTRY. 6th December, 1938. W.A.Robotham, Esq., Messrs. Rolls-Royce Ltd., DERBY. Dear Robotham, I was very glad to hear from you again vide your letter of the 2nd instant and particularly appreciate your remarks concerning the Super Snipe. Perhaps if you would like it some time I could arrange to let you have a car for a week-end. On the subject of bearings, I am very pleased to be able to tell you with my hand on my heart that we have I think I can say no trouble with bearings in any of our engines - touching wood! As a matter of fact, for your information we have been using a lead bronze bearing now in the mains for four years with very good success, but as the result of developments which we have been busy on for some time with cranks we have got out a design now which has relieved the bearing loads to such an extent that we about to revert to a Babbit lined steel in our main bearings. Very many thanks for your suggestion under this heading, and with kindest regards, Yours sincerely, [Signature] T.D.S. Winter | ||
