X4261 Our C.O. are urging for instructions to be issued to order up front springs for Goshawk production chassis. There are the following known faults with the present standard front springs:- (1) Records of cars running in France show that the top leaves break, on an average, after every 5000 miles. (2) There is also the general complaint which we have received from all cars run in France and from the majority of cars run in England, of the front springs bumping on the buffers - considerably more than on the 40/50. We have had on test springs with increased rating. From the results on the bump test, these springs should give better average results before breaking than the present standard ones. It will be necessary to confirm this test before anything definite can be said. One point which was certainly noticeable on the bump, was that the car appeared steadier. The front axle wheels were not flung about in the same way. We have tried one set of these springs on the limousine, we consider that they appear to steady down the front of the car. In any case, we cannot find any disadvantage in the riding with these springs fitted compared with the present standard springs. We doubt however whether they have made sufficient difference to the front springs bumping. It would appear that as the initial camber has been contd: | ||
